Frequently Asked Questions

How is GPA calculated?

GPA is calculated by multiplying each course's grade points by its credit hours (quality points), summing all quality points, then dividing by total credit hours. Formula: GPA = Total Quality Points รท Total Credits.

What's the difference between 4.0 and 5.0 weighted scale?

The 4.0 scale caps at 4.0 points for an A. The 5.0 weighted scale adds bonus points for difficult courses: Honors classes get +0.5 (so an A = 4.5) and AP/IB classes get +1.0 (so an A = 5.0).

What GPA do I need for Dean's List?

Most schools require a 3.5 GPA for Dean's List. Summa Cum Laude typically requires 3.9+, Magna Cum Laude 3.7+. Requirements vary by institution, so check with your school.

How does cumulative GPA work?

Cumulative GPA includes all courses across multiple semesters. Enter your current GPA and total credits earned, then add new courses. The calculator combines them into your new cumulative GPA.
