Frequently Asked Questions

What's the standard tip percentage?

In the US, 15-20% is standard for good service. 18% is common for groups. 10% for basic service, 25%+ for exceptional service. Tipping customs vary by country—some countries include service charges or don't expect tips.

How does bill splitting work?

Enter the number of people dining, and the calculator divides the total amount (bill + tip) evenly. Each person pays the same amount. For uneven splits, calculate each person's portion separately.

Should I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount?

Common practice is to tip on the pre-tax amount, though some tip on the total including tax. The difference is usually small. Our calculator works with whatever amount you enter—just use your bill subtotal for pre-tax tipping.

Can I use this for other currencies?

Yes! Change the currency symbol to match your local currency (£, €, ¥, etc.). The calculator works with any currency—just enter amounts in your currency and the math is universal.
